MASTERCLASSES IN PUPPET MANIPULATION

Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy, Puppetry Department, Białystok, Poland. The state institution of higher education in theatre art, which includes training of puppeteers (4-year studies) and puppet theatre directors (5-year studies). Master of Art degree available.

Subject:
Mastership in manipulation.
From the basic puppetry technique such as glove puppet and string puppet to playing with objects and other unconventional forms.

Lecturers:
Glove puppet - Dan BISHOP (UK), the eminent British puppeteer and Punch and Judy professor
String puppet - Lesław PIECKA (PL), expert of string puppet construction and movement, producer of puppet opera projects within the Chamber Opera in Warsaw
Object theatre - Piotr Damulewicz (PL), professor, master of playing with objects, author of the thesis on objects manipulation
Unconventional forms - Wiesław CZOŁPIŃSKI (PL), professor, puppet player and director experienced in all forms of modern puppetry.

Participants:
20-24 persons

Language:
Polish and English

Organisation of workshop:
80 hours of intensive puppets and objects manipulation will be executed in groups of 5-6 participants. To each subjects (mentioned above) will be given 20 hours in the 4-hours units in the morning and afternoon sessions. Thus each group of the participants will work with each of the teaching professors. Final presentation is to take place at the end of the first and second weeks of workshop.

Costs:
Costs of the workshop realized as a part of the Teatro Futura Europa project, which is co-financed from EU donation is 100 Euros.

Costs of the workshop include participation in classes and accommodation of participants (breakfast included). Payment should be made by 31 May 2003 to the following bank account: Kredyt Bank S.A., II O/Bialystok 15001344-121340012387-KRDDPLPW, with a note: "workshop".
Please, use the application form, enclosed. The deadline for applications is 15 May 2003. The criterion for accepting applications is the order in which they are received. In case too few participants apply, the organisers reserve the right to call the workshop off by 10 June 2003.
Participants of the international summer workshop will be able to participate on preferential conditions in the international festival of puppetry theatres to take place 20-22 June 2003 in Białystok, which will be organised as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Białystok Puppet Theatre. Detailed information about the festival can soon be found on the theatre's website at www.btl.bialystok.pl and the website of the puppetry department.
